S-90 Satellite Speaker

Acoustical guidelines dictated the design and production of the enclosure of the new S-90 Point Source speaker.
Economical considerations prevailed but not in respect to the quality of the sound relevant speaker components. In this regard the S-90 represents the opposite of the flashy speaker gendre with mediocre drive units, but at astronomical prices. One may view the round column of the S-90 as unattractive, the spindly stands ugly, the grill tacky and the upper section resembling a stove pipe. All features which may cause one to assume that such speaker could never produce a decent sound. However, the contrary is the case.
With high quality music material, a crystal clear, airy and dynamic sound stage with superb width and depth is produced.
For the very low bass we recommend the use of our H-80 corner horn along with the A-403 amplifier or the A-1000 plus the S-1. For best results we suggest you set the satellite high pass at 9-10 o'clock, the low pass also at 9-10 o'clock, and the subsonic at 8-9 o'clock. Phase adjustment should be set in accordance to your listening position and your room acoustics. It is emphasized that the S-90 sounds superb without subwoofer if low bass is not required or desired. Bass extension is simple with the addition of the B-2.

Mid-range Coloration
There is no thick muffled mid-range. Mid-range coloration is best demonstrated by placing both hands flat beside your mouth. Speaking with both your hands cupped as such, your voice, even though somewhat louder, will take on an unnatural timbre or boominess-coloration.

Positioning/Placement
The standard equal-sided triangle configuration should be maintained with the listening position centered. The driver should point directly towards the listener for correct phase relationship and best stereo imaging. Listeners preferring less presence and emphasis of the highs should position the speakers facing slightly more to the front (outwards).

Specifications
Technically inclined persons should refer to the data as presented on the pages of the C-190. The bass/mid-range driver is of wide frequency with a design-programmed attenuation at 2 kHZ. The soft dome tweeter is filtered via a generously-sized aircore spule and 10x1 uF Polypropylene film condensors parallel = 10 uF.
